Armitage to visit Brussels

US Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage will visit Brussels, Belgium from May 31 to June 2 for consultations with fellow donor co-chairs of the Tokyo Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka on the current status of the peace process in Sri Lanka. Other participants will represent the governments of Norway, Japan and the European Union.

A US Embassy news release stated that the donor co-chairs will review their assistance efforts, discuss humanitarian and basic reconstruction assistance to the war-devastated areas of the country, and express support for a resumption of peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which have been suspended since April 2003.
