Over 179 entries for revived Trans Asia Tennis Tourney

One hundred and seventy nine entries have been received for 13 events and over 100 matches will be worked off at the Trans Asia Hotel Open Tennis Championships which has been revived after three years and scheduled to be staged on the hotel's clay courts from July 12 to 18. This is a ranking tournament of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA).

Reebok of India, whose agents in Sri Lanka are D. Sampson Industries (DSI) Limited are the sponsors who are pumping in Rs. 216,500/= towards this tournament and its Managing Director, D. Kulatunga Rajapakse said that he was grateful to Trans Asia Hotel. This was the first occasion his company had moved into tennis, though having been involved in volleyball, basketball and cycling too.

The General Manager, Trans Asia Hotel, Andre Krestschmann said that the hotel was very pleased to revive this tournament after three years and its contribution towards the successful running was Rs. 414,500/= with attractive prizes including meal/accommodation vouchers.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLTA, Lionel Almeida, too thanked Trans Asia Hotel, which is also the SLTA's official hotel, for reviving this tournament. He disclosed that "quite a few" ranked players in the country will compete for honours.

The events to be worked off are - men's open singles and doubles, women's open singles and doubles, mixed open doubles, senior singles, senior doubles, boy's under-16 singles and doubles, girl's under-16 singles and doubles, boy's under-12 singles and girl's under-12 singles.

ITF White Badge holder, Walter Diaz, will be the Referee appointed by the SLTA.
