Ms. Ranjani de Fonseka, Secretary SLSASA said the Tamil Nadu swimmers for the aquatic dual will be from Justice P.S.Kailasam Medical and Educational Research Foundation. Tamil Nadu has confirmed their participation and they will be fielding 130 swimmers both boys and girls. Last year, the championships was held in Chennai and the SLSASA won the overall championships collecting 1026 points to Tamil Nadu's 1016 points to take the Dr.S.Kailasam Challenge Trophy. SLSASA took the boys overall title with 525 points, but Tamil Nadu won the girls overall with 541 points. This year too, the same events for both boys and girls will be held in open and five age categories (under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-19). In addition to the 60 individual events, free style and medley relays will be worked off in all age groups. Ms. Fonseka added that Sri Lanka schools' swimmers will be selected from the performances of the swimming trials to be worked off by the SLSASA. The swimmers, who are placed first to third in the respective events (at the trial), will be eligible to participate in the dual. Two stand-bys will also be selected to all events. The inaugural meet was held in 2002 at S.Thomas' College, Mt.Lavinia swimming pool and the SLSASA won the overall title. The Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association will make every effort to retain the overall title for the third year in succession. |
