Prestigious NCE Awards

The 12th NCE Exporters Awards Ceremony organised by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) will be held on 13th August at the Colombo Hilton.

This is one of the unique events in the NCE calender recognising exclusive performances of exporters in the country, NCE President Kingsley Bernard said at a media briefing. He said that this event is an impetus to exporters who are the backbone of the country's economy, and was initiated in 1993.

He said that NCE Exporters Awards was instituted under the auspices of the then President of the NCE Patrick Amarasinghe, making it the oldest award presentation in the exporting fraternity of Sri Lanka. Bernard explaining about this year's award ceremony ,said that this is not only based on sectors but also includes categories in small, medium and large and extra large in addition to the Outstanding Gold Awards in each sector.

The Most Outstanding Exporter of the Year, the Best Woman Exporter of the Year and the Sri Lankan Brand Exporter of the Year are the main awards, he said.

The number of awards have progressively increased over the years and this year there will be a total of 85 Awards comprising 38 Gold,33 Silver and 14 Bronze.

Chairman,Panel of Judges NCE awards ceremony, Lal Nanayakkara said that over the years the event has constantly improved the standards, which have been reviewed annually with special emphasis on value addition this year.

He said that each application is evaluated on its merits and selection will be without any bias or discrimination. Special preference will be given to entities, which stick to social obligations and environment concerns.

The sectors covered are agriculture, value-added tea, the garment industry, gems and jewellery and service providers to exporters.
