Bird flies to Sri Lanka

BIRD International Ltd (BIL), China's largest mobile phone manufacturer with the highest market share tied up with J.M.Wickramarachi and Company (JMWC) to enter the Sri Lankan market recently.

This strategic entry into the Sri Lankan market was after roaring successes and forays into the highly competitive markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore,Philippine, Malaysia Thailand, India and the Middle East, BIL Director Marketing South-Asia, Adarsh Shastri said.

He said that BIRD would have an aggressive marketing strategy in Sri Lanka to be one of the top brands in the country by 2005 end.

The models that have been introduced to Sri Lanka are state- of- the- art handsets targeting the mass market in the country, Shastri said.

These models include S288, S1190, G118, A150 and S 788, which have features of international standards such as high resolution camera, movie function, dual screen with main display and polyphonic ring tones, built in speaker phone, down-loads, GPRS,MMS and other features,he said.

Sri Lanka as one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world has inspired them to enter the market, Shastri said.

He said that this partnership will have a readymade islandwide platform for distribution, retail and service providers.

JMWC President Mihira Wickramarachi said that BIRD will be available at almost every retail store in Sri Lanka in the next six months.
