SLT breaks new ground in directory services

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) last week launched new directory services with claims it keeps SLT services abreast of all other such assistance which could be obtained around the world.

Simultaneously, SLT announced that it had secured Fitch AAA rating, making it the third Sri Lankan organisation to do so, following the City Bank group and NDB.

In a colourful event, themed, `Discovery the power of colour' SLT unveiled a new logo for its classified business section of its National Telephone Directory - Rainbow Pages, giving it a new and contemporary identity.

SLT now extends the Rainbow Pages products portfolio by introducing three main enhanced services, teleRainbow, eRainbow and Rainbow Pages CD. SLT's CEO Shuhei Anan launched teleRainbow, a 24- hour telephone operator assistance service that will provide information on Rainbow Pages.

This enhanced directory service allows customers to dial a number and ask an operator for assistance in English, Sinhala or Tamil. Additional information such as business hours, payment options and the like could also be obtained through this service, making it one of the most informative services guides available in Sri Lanka.

eRainbow is an integrated search facility available to customers over SLT's website www.slt.lk, where information in the Rainbow Pages is made available on-line. This service provides banners, pop up messages and special customer pages for listed customers as advertising options at a nominal price, SLT Chairman, Anil Obeysekera said. This site also includes special features which enables customers to link up with any advertisers' corporate website at no extra cost.

Rainbow Pages CD contains information on Rainbow Pages along with all island directory information - including government and religious institutions, business organisations and personal phone numbers.

This CD will also enable users to search for any details by name, business name, category and/or location. The Rainbow pages CD will be available for sale at all SLT tele-shops shortly, SLT's Chief Marketing Officer, Kapila Chandrasena said.

SLT claims that its National Telecom Directory, along with the Rainbow Pages, is widely regarded as Sri Lanka's most extensively used and in-demand directory and is of great benefit to every customer home or office in the country. Its comprehensive information on a spectrum of business messages and/or advertisements makes it a good medium to connect SLT advertisers to millions of potential customers or vis-a-vis, it was claimed at the launch.

The Rainbow Pages is designed with the innovative use of colour to correspond with various classified listings in the business section, so that it will enhance the usability and convenience of SLT customers when they search for the listed products and services. This directory will be issued to 850,000 subscribers, free of charge.

SLT is one of the country's most vital utility companies with an annual turnover in excess of Rs 22 billion, Chandrasena said.

The company in recent years has improved its service and productivity by tripling its network from 250,000 to 750,000 connections, while maintaining the same staff strength. SLT has NTT of Japan as a strategic partner.
