Dengue dips but experts warn fresh outbreak The dengue suspected cases, which soared to thousands during last two months, have recorded a slight decrease but the epidemiology experts warn of another outbreak in coming months if the public goes on un-notice about cleaning of their environs. "People have to give same concern in keeping their environs clean and tidy even now", Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, Director, Epidemiology Unit (EU) of the Ministry of Health said. According to him, the number of dengue suspected cases has come down slightly but need more public assistance to bring down the number. With 100 per cent increase in suspected dengue cases during the last two months, the EU has renewed its prevention strategies. A team of epidemiological experts study the new plans and updating the existing prevention methods to face the next monsoonal season. However, Dr. Abeysinghe seeks public assistance to make a dengue-free environment. It is advised to continue with the same cleaning methods to eradicate mosquito menace in the residential areas. Not only during the peak times but throughout the year people should keep the interest to clean their environs", he added. Several public participation programs to clean the environs have been organised by the EU with the support of the Lions' Clubs. (SS) |
