Shubha Mudgal to perform here The famous Indian singer, Shubha Mudgal, will be here soon. Popular in India, her fame has also spread lately into other parts of the world. Initially, she had established herself as a classical singer, for which career she had been trained under several all-India greats as Pandit Kumar Gandharv, Pandit Ram Ashrey Jha and Pandit V. C. Maudgalya. But very soon her readiness to experiment with musical modes pushed her in the direction of Hindi pop songs. It is through this medium that she has gained an enduring star status. With songs like Ali More Angana, she first achieved stardom. He recent hits include Dholna, Nachoon sari sari raat and particularly Ab Ke Sawan. She is performing in Colombo as a part of a musical ensemble called Koshish - a Musical Crossover. Their music is a fusion of jazz, North Indian classical and Western classical music. Mudgal and Koshish are being brought to Colombo by the India-Sri Lanka Foundation, a body set up jointly by the governments of Sri Lanka and India. Koshish will be performing at Bishop's College auditorium on Thursday, Sept 2, at 6.30 p.m.Mudgal will also present a North Indian classical concert at the INdian Cultural Centre on Wednesday, Sep. 1, at 6.30 p.m. Passes for both the events may be collected from the Indian Cultural Centre, 133, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, August 25, 2004 onwards. |
