Union calls for revestment of CWE with Govt. Kandy North Correspondent The United Employees Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle requesting him to revest the now privatised Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) with the government. Among the grounds cited were the large-scale retrenchment of employees, punishment meted out to employees on minor lapses, indiscriminate transfers, denial of leave and dismissals. The Union claimed that despite the written agreement guaranteeing the continuance of all privileges which the employees enjoyed earlier, the present management has failed to grant the recent salary increase to them which their counterparts in the government and private sector were rewarded with. |
