Junior National Swimming and Diving C'ships on Sept. 10

Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) has finalised arrangements to hold the Junior National Swimming and Diving Championships on September 10 and 11. The swimming events will take place at the Ananda College swimming pool and the diving events at the Royal College pool.

Shantha Wijeratne, Swimming Controller SLASU said that entry forms had already been circulated amongst the affiliate members. Entries close tomorrow, Monday August 23 at 4.00 p.m. at the SLASU Administrative Office, 161, Thimbirigasyaya Road, Colombo.

A swimmer may enter up to a maximum of five events. However, a team could enter a maximum of five competitors per event. All heats/preliminaries will be held during the morning session commencing at 9.00 a.m. The final will be held in the afternoon session commencing at 2.30 p.m. Those who do not report at the start-up time will be disqualified. No appeals will be entertained. Thirteen events for both boys an girls will be worked off. There will be a total of 26 events.

Events - 400 metres free style, 200 metres individual medley, 50 metres breast stroke, 50 metres butterfly stroke, 50 metres back stroke, 50 metres free style, 4x50 metres free style relay (boys and girls on September 10), 200 metres free style, 100 metres breast stroke, 100 metres butterfly stroke, 100 metres back stroke, 100 metres free style, 4x50 metres medlay relay - boys and girls on September 11. The 400 metres free style and 200 metres free style both boys and girls will be held as timed finals.

The relays will be held as timed finals as in the order of events. The names of those participating in a relay meet should be submitted at least one hour before the start of the event in the order they will swim. In the case of medley relay the swimmers must be listed in their respective stroke.

The award of points will be as follows (for overall championships) - Individual events - First place (10 points), second (7), third (6), fourth (5), fifth (4), sixth (3), seventh (2), eighth (1); Relays - First (20), second (15), third (13), fourth (10), fifth (8), sixth (6), seventh (4), eighth (2).

Only two diving events will be conducted-one metre and three-metre spring board. The one-metre spring board diving for both boys and girls will be held on September 10 at 11 a.m. The 3-metre spring board diving for both boys and girls will be on September 11 at 11.00 a.m.

The winners will be decided after seven dives are completed on both events.

The overall champions will be decided on the points-First place (10 points), second (7) and third (5).
