Dr Dissanayake in an interview with the Sunday Observer said that in a globalised world Sri Lanka has to be more competitive and that diversity in the workforce, if managed effectively, can help the country and the companies to achieve this objective.

A truly diverse workforce, she said, is beneficial to a company since it capitalizes on the innovativeness and creativity of each member.

Developing a workplace that appreciates these difference is essential to create a motivated and rewarding environment where higher productivity is achieved through all its people.

Psychology at work is therefore about creating an environment where each person is recognised and valued and wants to come to work and give its best to the workplace. Managing diversity, she asserts, is not about just concentrating on issues of discrimination. It's more about making sure that all people maximise their potential and contributes to the success of the organisation.

The sponsors of the conference are SriLankan Airlines, CIMA, Gateway, Sri Lanka Tourist Board UK, Transil Travel UK and MTV.
