Ganguly and Laxman punish Kenya with impressive knocks

LONDON, Saturday (Reuters) Captain Saurav Ganguly struck 90 and Vangipurappu Laxman crafted 79 to take India to an impressive 290 for four against Kenya in Group C of the ICC Champions Trophy at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on Saturday.

Ganguly hit eight boundaries in his 124 balls before Martin Suji finally broke through his defences after the pair had put on 161 following Thomas Odoyo's dismissal of the out of form Virender Sehwag for 17.

Odoyo then removed Yuvraj Singh for nine and snapped up his third wicket when Laxman was stumped by Kennedy Otieno.

Mohammad Kaif made a quickfire 49 not out off 29 balls towards the end with Rahul Dravid scoring 30 from 16.

India opted to play three seamers in Ajit Agarkar, Ashish Nehra and Irfan Pathan, leaving out spinner Anil Kumble but playing Harbhajan Singh.

Dinesh Karthik, 19, will also continue behind the stumps for his second one-day cap with world player of the year Dravid playing solely as a batsman.
