Clifford Cup Rugby starts Sept 17

The suspension on the CR & FC lifted by the SLRFU, the Caltex Clifford Cup Knock-Out Rugby Championship is scheduled to start on September 17.

According to the Secretary of the SLRFU, Iswan Omar, the Tournament Committee, has drawn up the tentative schedule, but apart from the CR & FC and Police, all other sides have confirmed their participation.

There are two quarter-final games on September 17. They are Kandy SC vs Navy at Nittawela and Police vs Havelocks at Longden Place. The other two "quarter" are CR & FC vs Air Force on September 18 at Longden Place and CH & FC vs Army also at Longden Place on September 19.

The two semi-finals are down for decision on September 21 and 22 with the final scheduled for September 26 at Nittawela if Kandy SC are involved.

He further said that the national pool is to be picked soon after the tournament to go into training for the Asiad scheduled to be staged in Hong Kong in October - November.

The Sri Lanka contingent is to comprise 22 players and three officials.
