Australia announces enhanced security measures after Jakarta blast

SYDNEY, Sept 11 (AFP) Prime Minister John Howard announced stepped-up security measures at Australian missions around the world Saturday and special enhanced measures in Indonesia, two days after a deadly bomb attack on Australia's Jakarta embassy.

The measures would include the relocation of Canberra's mission in Bali and new checks on flights to Australia out of Indonesia. Following a security briefing with Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and security chiefs, Howard also announced that an additional five million dollars (3.5 million US) would be given to the joint investigation.

"We are determined to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Indonesians in fighting this terrorist scourge and we continue to regard what happened on Thursday as much an attack on Indonesia as it was an attack on Australia," Howard said.
