by Umangi de Mel Raiza Jameel, yet another face in the fashion industry, has been in the field for over five years. A designer with a flare for casual wear and office wear, Raiza is also the production director of R & J Apparels which is run by her husband, "Our brand name is 'Jezza'," she says talking about their business. Having had a knack for designing from the younger years, Raiza completed a diploma course in fashion and designing at 'Ferla', a garment industry training institute. "At the institute, it was the UK standard measurement that we had to study. But now we switch the sizes according to the local shape". Their business is a joint venture, she says. Raiza manages the designing work while her husband handles the marketing side of it. The two of them took part in the DHL fashion show in 2003 which was organised by the Garment Times Magazine. "We were in need of some exposure which is why we participated," says Raiza. They hope to capture 10 percent of the Sri Lankan market by 2007. "We are the only people who supply branded clothes for females in Sri Lanka. Above all, we cater to everybody irrespective of their sizes or shape. Even fat people don't have to limit themselves to loose blouses." Raiza says they import the material from China, Thailand, Korea and Indonesia. |
