UNPers absent at voting, told to explain

by Rohan Mathes

UNP Deputy Secretary-General Tissa Attanayake clarifies that the four UNP Parliamentarians who were absent at the 'Tax Amnesty Amendment Bill' voting in Parliament last week, had been summoned by the party's 'Working Committee', only to explain their absence, and not for disciplinary action as claimed by certain media reports.

Attanayake told the 'Sunday Observer' that Parliamentarians Naveen Dissanayake, Sajith Premadasa, A. Vedaarachchi and Mary Larine Perera had been absent at voting time due to unavoidable circumstances.

Naveen Dissanayake had been abroad while Sajith Premadasa and Vedaarachchi had been ill.

Mary Larine Perera had missed voting due to her husband and former UNP Minister Festus Perera's illness.

He said the party's 'Working Committee' met last Thursday to discuss this matter further.
