LTTE to consider government proposals by S. Selvakumar The LTTE is willing to examine the government's alternate proposals and accommodate same wherever it could fit in with their ISGA proposals but without any fundamental changes, Kilinochchi based LTTE sources said yesterday. Though the government has still not submitted their alternate proposals in writing the fundamentals have been conveyed to the LTTE through Norwegian special envoy Erik Solheim who was time and again involved in shuttle diplomacy between the government and the LTTE. Sources said the LTTE delegation headed by S. P. Thamilselvan currently in Geneva was fully conversant with the basics of the government's alternative proposals and the trip to Geneva was to discuss these matters with their legal consultants and theoretician Anton Balasingham. Meanwhile TNA parliamentarians Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and Joseph Pararajasingham left for Geneva yesterday. Speaking to the Sunday Observer on the eve of his departure Pararajasingham said that the purpose of their visit was to participate in a conference on the North East Secretariat on Human Rights and added they would join the LTTE team after the conference. According to LTTE sources in Kilinochchi the Tiger delegation headed by S. P. Thamilselvan met with their theoretician Anton Balasingham, his wife Adel and their legal advisors Siva Pasupathy, Rudrakumar and Swarnaraj who flew into Geneva. The delegation was expected to have a second round of meetings on Saturday. After the Friday meeting the delegation has met with a team of Switzerland's Foreign Ministry officials. |
