Caddie Dinesh Kumar takes Milo Junior Golf C'ship

by S. M. JIFFREY ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr.

Caddies called the tune as caddie Dinesh Kumar from the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club won the Milo Junior Open Championship with Gross score of 150 over 36 holes at the Milo Junior Golf Championship organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by MILO.

The matches were played at the Victoria Golf Course last week.

Heavy rain which fell on all three days including the practice day did not discourage the 43 young ones from all parts of the island who braved the inclement weather to display their skills out in the open.

The Club authorities headed by the Director/General Manager Tony Witham and his team of officers worked tirelessly and kept the youngsters in good spirits. Apart from golf, it was camaderie and socialising and getting to know each other for the little ones who are the future golfers of the country. Dinesh Kumar who walked away with the 'plum' was in excellent form making scores of 75 gross and 64 nett on the first day and followed up with scores of 75 and 64 in the second day in identical fashion. Dinesh Kumar also won the Nett category by making a total of 128 nett.

This promising caddie looks a fine prospect for the future.

In the Silver Division for golfers between 12 to 14 years Binupa Wijesinghe romped home winner by a fairly comfortable margin in the Gross Category by making a total of 154 Gross made up of 81 on the first day and 73 on the second day. Chamil Wickremasinghe was runner up with 166 Gross.

However, Chamil Wickremasinghe hit back to win the Nett category by making a total of 142 Nett made of 70 on the first day and 72 on the second day.

Binupa Wijesinghe who became runner up made a total of 144 nett on a count back after a count back with Bandula Wimalaratne who also made 144 nett.

This will give some indication as to the fight between this trio for the top slot.
