Murali memorabilia on auction in Canada by SRIAN OBEYESEKERE Sri Lankan world Test cricket bowling record holder, Muttiah
Muralitharan's memorabilia will go on auction this week in Canada where
the super star is being felicitated by the Sri Lankan community. These will include valuables like balls used by the spinning great in international matches and 'Murali' tee-shirts for the hero's cricket crazy idols to take away. Muralitharan, who has had a long lay off from cricket due to a cyst in his shoulder which required surgery in Australia recently, is expected to travel to Australia again in November for examination by his surgeon Dr. Neville Young. "Muralitharan will need to get Dr. Young's clearance to make a reappearance in the cricketing arena," his Manager, Kushil Gunasekera, himself a former cricketer, told the 'Sunday Observer' yesterday. A series of felicitations in Canada include a reception in Ottawa by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Canada on October 8, and a banquet in Toronto by the 'Voice of Lanka' in Canada on October 9, according to Gunasekera. "Until such time that he is fit to play again Murali is very keen on utilising time on his charity work to collect funds for the Muralitharan-Gunasekera Foundation to be utilised for the betterment of mankind," Gunasekera said. The foundation is a joint collaboration between the two. |
