Lankan surgeon presents research at international parleys

Dr. Manisha Hettiarachchi, a Sri Lankan surgeon resident in London, presented her research into the genetics of Crohn's disease at the Royal College of Paediatrics International Conference, at the University of York in March, 2004. She won the award of best abstract in the field of inflammatory bowel disease at the British Society of Gastroenterology Conference, held in Glasgow, UK in March, 2004.

In addition, Dr. Hettiarachchi was invited to the USA, Europe and Australia. In USA, she presented here research at the Digestive Disorders Week Conference, held in New Orleans, in May, 2004. In Europe, it was the Sir Peter Freyer Surgical Symposium in September, 2004 and most recently in October, 2004, where she presented her research at the Australian Gastroenterology Week Conference in Brisbane.

Dr. Hettiarachchi is a past pupil of St. Bridget's Convent and Colombo International School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Premasiri Hettiarachchi of Colombo 4 and is married to Mr. Takshan Abeyagoonewardane, Management Consultant at Transport for London, UK.
