President felicitates Amaradeva

President Chandrika Kumaratunga in a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 77th birthday of Dr. Pandit W. D. Amaradeva has wished him long life, health and wisdom to continue enriching national music as the leading musician of the nation.

Lauding his ever memorable magnificent contribution for over half a century towards the creation of a national music tradition by blending indigenous folk music with traditional North Indian music, the President claims that Sri Lanka is proud to have in him a worthy citizen who has been recognised internationally as testified by the Magsaysay Award and the Padmasri Award received by him.

Kidney patient seeks help

Miss Himali Prematilleke (25) of No. 107, Ruwanpura, Hatton is suffering from an acute kidney disease.

An 'A' positive or 'O' positive kidney transplant has been recommended by Dr. Thilak Abeysekera of Kandy General Hospital.

Hiran Chamuditha, a seven-year-old student of 82, Pattiwila, Gonawela, is suffering from an acute heart ailment.

Dr. Aruna Kapuruge, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, has recommended an urgent heart surgery estimated to cost Rs. 275.000. Hiran's father, Ravi Cooray, says that they are unable to foot the entire amount and requests the general public to save his son's life by sending whatever possible financial assistance to expedite the surgery.
