Talking Point : A Boomerang by Voyeur Political circles are buzzing with the news that the report of the Committee appointed by the UNP hierarchy to recommend reforms of the party to gear itself to win the next election has been swept under the carpet as the report is disfavourable to the Leader. Sources reveal that sixty per cent of the UNP membership are disillusioned with the leadership of Ranil Wickremesinghe according to the report prepared by former UNP Chairman, N.G.P. Panditharatne. This document expected to be presented at today's UNP sessions has gone missing. Panditharatne was appointed by Wickremesinghe to make recommendations to revamp the party structure to win the next election. It has also been revealed that 80 per cent of the membership claim that Wickremesinghe will not be able to win the next presidential election. According to UNP sources another facet of the report obtained by Wickremesinghe indicates that Karu Jayasuriya is the most favoured to assume the leadership of the UNP followed by Rukman Senanayake and Prof. G. L. Peiris. The report is based on the feedback received from hardcore UNPers islandwide. |
