Tyronne NE Governor Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tyronne fernando has been appointed as the Governor of the North and the East by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Tyronne Fernando who succeeds Major General Asoka Jayawardene as Governor North and the East will take his oaths before President on December 6 (Tomorrow) at the Presidential Secretariat. Speaking to the Sunday Observer Tyronne Fernando said "The President has placed tremendous confidence in me. I will try to justify it with humility." Tyronne Fernando is an MA of Oxford University (where he was the first Asian to be elected as Chairman of the Oxford University Labour Club), a Barrister-at-Law of Gray's Inn. A President's Counsel and was Cricket Board President during the critical years 1991 to 1994, he is also the author of several books including one on the ethnic crisis `100 days in 87'. |
