Death of ex-UNP Minister

Former Agricultural Products and Marketing Minister J. B. Wijeratne Banda passed away at the age of 66 last evening after a prolonged illness at the Kandy General Hospital. He was elected to Parliament in 1977 for the Laggala electorate and was the Deputy Information Minister under the late J. R. Jayewardene's UNP government.

In 1989 he was re-elected to Parliament from the Matale district. Cortege leaves residence No. 100, Sarasavigama Road, Mahakanda, Kandy on Dec. 22 (Wednesday) at 3.30 p.m. for cremation at the Mahakanda public cemetery.

Two-year-old Nimesha Dilshani, of Pitiyegedara, Puhullwatta, Passara is suffering from a heart disease.

Dr. K. Sivakumar, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals, Colombo has advised her to undergo early surgery to save her life. The surgery to be performed at the Apollo Hospitals, Colombo is estimated to cost Rs. 250,000. Due to financial constraints, her father, A. M.
