Mahamaya - the pin-up team in local swimming Mahamaya College, Kandy has taken Sri Lanka swimming by storm with their superlative displays for the year 2004. The Kandy schoolgirls have emerged champions in all eight swimming championships they have participated. For Mahamaya swimmers it is a proud achievement indeed!. Surely, the performances by the girls will go into record books as no other girls school in Sri Lanka has achieved such a feat. Mahamaya College has became champions in the following meets: National Swimming, Diving, Synchronized and Waterpolo tournament. National School Games Swimming Meet, Junior National Swimming and Diving Championships, National Pentathlon Swimming Championships, National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championships, Short Course National Swimming Championships, Age Group Relay Championships, Sri Lanka Schools Swimming and Diving Championships. Mahamaya College in addition to becoming overall champions at the Sri Lanka Schools Swimming and Diving Championships took overall girls junior and senior titles, under-10 team championships, under-12 championships, under-15 championships and under-19 championships. It is also interesting to note that most of Mahamaya's swimmers have participated in several international meets here and abroad. Some of the swimmers have been awarded swimming colours by the Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Association. Then in the present swimming squad captain Shanika Wimalanath, Dilanthi Ranaweera, Udari Mendis, Mihiri Kandanarachchi, have won National Swimming Colours. L.F. |
