EDB helps exporters enter global markets

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) last week linked up with popular global search engines for local exporters to enter global markets.

The EDB has linked up with search engines including Compass, Alibaba and Easy Europe so that it could connect with global buyers on line, its Chairman Rohantha Athukorala said. He said that Easy Europe is the major directory for buyers in Europe, while Compass is a major directory for buyers in South American markets.This could connect Global buyers of non traditional exporters.

Athukorala said that the EDB has also linked up with 14 ground centres in the country to facilitate market access covering major cities such as Galle, Matara, Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Matale, Ratnapura, Kalutara and Hambantota.

He said that with the introduction of this system our exporters could reach a target of Rs 600 billion from the present Rs 584 billion.

"With the launch of this "e- Market" link the EDB has received over 31 inquiries from Europe and India, the EDB Chairman said.
