British govt to help in post-tsunami reconstruction

by Hiran H. Senewiratne

The British government will support post-tsunami reconstruction work, since it has a positive image on Sri Lanka, the visiting Chief Executive of the British Consultancy and Construction Bureau (BCCB), Graham Hand said.

He said that the British government has pledged considerable financial assistance for reconstruction activities in the country and the BCCB expects to use some of that money for this purpose. This money is not tied to the peace process of the country.

"Our main objective is to assist the re-construction work in Sri Lanka and the BCCB comprises top private sector companies relating to the construction industry," he said.

Hand said the BCCB will work with high quality Sri Lankan expertise to complete key infrastructure projects that were damaged following the tsunami disaster. BCCB is due to meet the Sri Lankan authorities including Adviser to the President Mano Tittawella who heads the Task Force for Rebuilding the Nation to discuss matters relating to the post-tsunami construction work and their contribution to bring everything back to normal, he said.

BCCB member companies are already operating in Sri Lanka and they are supporting and jointly work with local construction companies in reconstruction activities.

BCCB is backed by top consultants in the world, relating to the construction industry.
