Abans, LG partnership stronger

LG from Korea, previously known as Gold Star, has been in Sri Lanka for over 11 years since its liaison with Abans, having entered Sri Lanka during the mid nineties.

Abans founder and Chairperson Mrs. Abans Pestonjee, in pursuit of groundbreaking market segments, saw this combination, as a great avenue to reach this goal. Mrs. Pestonjee recently won the Kotra award a prestigious award for forging business ties between Korea and Sri Lanka, a media release from the company said.

During a decade of innovation, Abans has been equally brand conscious and persevered hand-in-hand with LG Korea to capture a sizable market in the electronic consumer durable sector in Sri Lanka.

When the GoldStar brand was being promoted in Sri Lanka, Abans was importing only the 17" B/W TV after taking over the franchise. Abans took over the agency for GoldStar at a time when the brand was hardly known in Sri Lanka.

Over a considerable period of time, braving the competition the Company was able to instill in the minds of the consumer market here, a 'dependable quality' image for the Korean principal against established Korean branches such as Samsung and Daewoo. LG, with its range of electronics and household appliances was taking giant strides in the international sphere for electronic appliances.

The transition from Gold Star to LG, did not have any negative effect in the minds of the customers, but instead grew even greater consolidating its market leadership.Today, the LG brand is by far the most established and recognised brand in the country. Abans has helped create for it a perception of being a futuristic brand that everyone would aspire to have.

By providing Easy payment schemes and interest free options, the brand has touched the lives of many more people across many more regions in Sri Lanka.

Kim, the South Asian President of LG was here on a business visit to launch the new and innovative range of LG appliances on Wednesday at the Taj Samudra. At the LG Dealer Convention on Wednesday, awards were given to target achievers. Kim also opened a new showroom at Dehiwela, 'The Digital Centre', prior to the launch, the release said.
