Bates among top five

Following its re-launch as a part of WPP's Asian network, Bates Asia Strategic Alliance backed up its new image and business building thrust with a solid performance at the SLIM Ad Awards on Saturday night. Bates moved into top gear to emerge among the top five award winners with a slate of 11 awards this year.

Featured among Bates' big wins was work bearing an intrinsically Sri Lankan ethos for key client Holcim with a Gold for radio advertising, a Silver and Bronze for TV and another Bronze for print. Following a Silver won at the Sumathi Awards, all three TV commercials done last year for Holcim have now won awards.

Bates also showed its prowess in financial advertising with a Gold for their "Bulls and Bears" print campaign for the listing of Asiri Medical Services shares on the Colombo Stock Exchange, and a Bronze for the "Savings Month" campaign for the National Savings Bank.

Work done by Bates' integrated communications arm 141 won the Gold and Bronze in the Interactive Category where they have been showing their particular expertise consistently over the years. "Carl's Room" for Carlsberg beer has thus been acknowledged as the coolest website in town, while a promotional CD done for Lanka Bell's software services BellSoft got the Bronze.

The other Bronze winner from this team was for Dankotuwa Procelain. Work led by Bates' third arm Rowland PR for Mortein's Dengue Prevention Campaign won Bronzes in the Public Relations and Point of Sale categories.

"Our strengths in both the mainstream and diversified communications areas are reflected in this year's wins.

It is gratifying to note that in addition to the awards several of our entries emerged among the top five nominees," said the Agency's CEO Nimal Gunewardena, adding "we now have a solid creative and management team that is geared to take our Agency places in the years ahead."
