Tata calling cards for Lankans travelling abroad

by Hiran H. Senewiratne

VSNL Lanka Limited (VLL), a subsidiary of the Tata Group has unveiled the Tata Indicom Global Calling Card for Sri Lankans travelling abroad.

The Global Calling Card will enable outbound Sri Lankan travellers to make inbound calls to Sri Lanka at tariffs, which are up to 80 per cent lower than other telecom offerings, its Chairman S. K. Gupta said.

He said that Sri Lanka was the first international initiative undertaken by them to introduce this calling card and they intend to introduce the latest telecommunications technology, products and services across all customer segments in the country. The company is in the process of introducing calling cards to 28 countries very soon, he said.

With the scope of international trade and commerce growing by leaps and bounds, there are significant opportunities for domestic and international telecom service providers in the country, VLL Director Vish Govindasamy said.

He said that the penetration and state-of-the-art telecom services has become an economic indicator worldwide.

Offering the highest quality at affordable prices will be our aim as we continue expanding the range of Tata Indicom services for the corporate and retail segments, VLL Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ravi Shankar said.

He said that Tata Indicom Calling Cards can be purchased by Sri Lankans travelling abroad in local currency, thus saving precious foreign exchange for making inbound calls.

The cards will be available in denominations of Rs. 250, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000. A 24-hour customer service centre will support all customer queries across all countries at toll-free or local call rates. The calling card will impart greater voice clarity and convenience.
