Four undergrads awarded US scholarships Colombo, March 09, 2005: Four Sri Lankan undergraduates received full scholarships from the US Government to complete their degrees at American universities. Dharshani Munasinghe, Ruwan Algewatte, Chandima Arambepola and Subhani de Silva are the first Sri Lankan undergraduates to be selected for this prestigious programme. Students from India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh have also been selected. The "Partnerships for Learning Undergraduate Studies" PLUS Programme is an initiative of the US Department of State that allows undergraduates from the Middle East and South Asia complete their studies in the US. The programme targets talented students especially from under represented regions who have completed two years of a Bachelors Degree in Arts, Humanities or Social Science subjects from Sri Lankan universities. The PLUS programme provides full scholarships for three to six months of intensive English Language at American institutions before completing the final two years of a four-year undergraduate degree program and graduating from a US university.
