Foreign invasion from South Asia for Golf Nationals

Thirteen top amateurs from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh together with the leading players from Sri Lanka will play in the 113th Sri Lanka Open Amateur Golf Championship of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) which starts today at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) Course.

The finals are on Saturday (March 19) 'Both India and Pakistan will be represented by five players each, while Bangladesh will have three. India were also to send four private entries, but we have not got confirmation.

Nepal too showed interest, but due to the unrest in their country have opted out" said a spokesman for SLGU.

Four events (Dudley Senanayake Trophy, Levers Challenge Shield, Levers Cup and RCGC Cup) will be teed off today (Sunday) for players of Handicap 28 and under, while the Seniors Championship where the maximum handicap is 18 and under too will be worked off today.

The main Championship starts on Wednesday for those with handicap 12 and under with the final day being on Saturday.

There will be four Malaysians in action at the Sri Lanka Open Amateur Ladies Championship.
