Sri Lanka women's cricketers South Africa bound Sri Lanka led by Sandamali Dolewatte leaves for South Africa on Tuesday for the Women's Cricket World Cup to be staged in Pretoria which is scheduled to be worked off from March 16 to April 13. Besides Sri Lanka, the other countries vying for honours are England, New Zealand, Australia, India, South Africa, West Indies and Ireland. Sri Lanka, ranked sixth in the world, retains three veterans from previous World Cup tournaments, and are coached by Nihal Kodituwakku with Singer as the official sponsors of the national side. The President of the Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka (WCASL), Mrs Gwen Herath, will represent Sri Lanka at the historic ICC/IWCC merger meeting in Pretoria on April 2. Apart from skipper Sandamali Dolewatte, the other members of the Sri Lanka side are: Hiruka Fernando, Shashikala Siriwardene (Vice-Captain), Inoka Galagedera, Prabha Udawatte, Dedunu de Silva, Janakanthi Mala, Chamari Polgampola, Sweeni de Silva, Thilaka Gunaratne, Mithchelle Perera, Thanuja Ekanayake, Sripalee Weerakoddy and Eshani Kaushalya. Ms. Christobel Tillekeratne is the Manageress, Padma Karunaratne the Assistant Manageress and Pushpa Jayasiri, the physiotherapist. (L.G.) |
