Private sector equipment for coastal construction

The Coast Conservation Department (CCD) is seeking funds from the Asian Development Bank (ADB's) Coastal Resources Management Project (CRMP) to purchase heavy equipment as loaders, tippers and excavators which were damaged by the Asian tsunami. At present, CCD hires such equipment from the private sector.

CCD has up to now completed the repair and reconstruction of 2,200 metres of badly damaged coastal protection structures as rivertments and groynes, by the Asian tsunami, in the worst affected areas such as Akurula, Peraliya, Telwatte and Seenigama in the south. The cost incurred so far is Rs 30 million.
