by Rohan Mathes

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar will attend the Golden Jubilee Commemoration of the Bandung Conference of Non-Aligned nations from April 21-25, Prime Minister's media sources said.

The Bandung Conference which eventually paved the way for the Non-Aligned Movement and the 'Panchaseela' principles on which the Movement was later based, had been held in April 1955. Ceylon as one of the five founder members of the Movement along with Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Burma, had been represented by former Premier Sir John Kotalawela.

Next weeks conference in Bandung will be represented by its 96-member countries, with Prime Ministers and Presidents of over 51 countries attending. President Kumaratunga who was to participate at this meeting had later requested Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to attend it, the sources said.
