Army chides LTTE for false propaganda The Army last week denounced the LTTE for carrying out false propaganda by assaulting civilians and rival groups in the East to prove that the government has no control over the province despite several measures taken by the security forces to protect the achilles' heel in the country's fragile peace bid. "In the East, the Batticaloa district alone has a population of over 800,000 people and it is not possible to provide security for each and every individual, but we would do our utmost to protect civilians from attacks of armed groups," military spokesperson Daya Ratnayake said.
