'India has an abiding interest in Sri Lanka's security' India has an abiding interest in Sri Lanka's security, said Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran in a statement upon arriving in Colombo yesterday. Commenting on the objectives of his visit the Indian Foreign Secretary said: " I look forward to reviewing with our Sri Lankan colleagues the entire range of our bilateral relations and planning future steps in our interaction. In particular, I look forward to discussing how India and Sri Lanka can cooperate in projects relating to post-tsunami rehabilitation. My visits to the East and the Upcountry will provide an opportunity to consider how we can impart new dynamism to India's development partnership with Sri Lanka." "I will reiterate during my meetings India's strong and consistent support for the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka as well as for a peaceful, negotiated political solution to the ethnic conflict that meets the just aspirations of all communities in Sri Lanka," the statement added. "India stands ready to assist Sri Lanka as it moves resolutely on the path towards peace and accelerated economic development while preserving and strengthening the democratic and pluralistic nature of its society," it further noted. |
