Indian Foreign Secretary visits Trincomalee, Kandy Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka visited Trincomalee where he handed over a Toyota van, a public address system, lecture hall chairs, computers and other accessories to the Trincomalee Technical College. In his remarks at the College, the Indian Foreign Secretary emphasised that India was committed to assisting in the development of Sri Lanka's North East through economic and technical assistance. He mentioned that the presence of Lanka-IOC in Trincomalee and Indian assistance to the Trincomalee Technical College were symbolic and representative of the close and enduring ties that India has with North-Eastern Sri Lanka. He then visited the Lanka-IOC tank farm and the Navy House. Later in the day, Saran left for Kandy where he met with Central Province Governor Monty Gopallawa, and Uva Province Governor Nanda Mathew. He handed over four fully equipped ambulances to the Central and Uva provinces as part of ongoing Indian financial assistance. Saran expressed the hope that these ambulances would be of help to the plantation and village communities to carry patients requiring urgent medical attention. |
