Army 'A' take Women's 7's title by Srian Obeyesekere Army 'A' took the plum in the Women's 7's Rugby Tournament beating Slimline by 31 points (3 goals, 2 tries) to nil in the Cup finals at the fourth annual tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Development Committee. They led 14-0 at lemons. The soldier lasses triumph on the way downing the only foreign opposition by the way of Hong Kong in their preliminary match by 17 points to nil brought the smiles on with recently elected President of the (SLRFU) the youthful Priyantha Ekanayake, Sri Lanka's most illustrious men's captain remarking that it underwrote a beginning for the Lankan 'fairer lasses' in the firmament at that level. The Bowls Cup went to Seethawaka RFU who rolled aside Sabaragamuwa RFC 15 (3 tries) to 7 (goal) in the final, and the Plate saw Hong Kong get a consolation victory over Army 'B' by 28 points (2 goals, 3 tries) to 7, half-time scores being 7-all. |
