Ananda, Mahamaya Age Group relay champs by Leslie Fernando Ananda College and Mahamaya College, Kandy swimmers took major honours when they emerged boys and girls overall champions at the 2005 Age Group Relay Championships conducted by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and sponsored by Fishtail Aquatic Club, Mutwal and held at the Ananda College swimming pool yesterday. In the boys section, Ananda College with 182 points took the top spot while Trinity College finished second with 146 points and St. Joseph's College third with 142 points. The swimmers from Kandy, Mahamaya College, the 2004 champion swimming outfit, gave yet another extraordinary performances to retain the girls title with 248 points followed by Ladies College second with 132 points and Musaeus College third with 112 points. Altogether five new meet records were established and Ananda College relay quartet accounted for the first record, in the 4x50 metres free style relay boys under-16, clocking 1:53.19 secs. Asanka Managoda, Lasitha Abeywardena, Punnasa Senanayake and Chanaka Malimbada represented the relay team. The second and third records went to Mahamaya College, Kandy in the 4x50 metres free style relay girls under 12, with a time of 2:25.70 secs with Tharanga Manapperuma, Roshani de Silva, Kaushalya Rowel, Sunethra Wijeratne forming the relay quartet and 4x50 metres free style relay girls under-10, with a time of 2:55.85 secs and the quartet comprised Samadhi Bandara, Jithmini Warnasuriya, Imani Abeykoon, Ayeshika Jayawardena. Trinity College accounted for the fourth record in the 4x50 metres medley relay boys under-10, with a time of 2:50.49 secs. T. Edusooriya, S. Karunarathne, M. Hulangamuwa, I. Athurupana represented the relay. Royal College broke the fifth record in the 4x50 metres medley relay boys under-16 with a time of 2:9.76 secs. Yahan Samarajeewa, Dasun Perera, Althaf Yaquib, Purinima Kankanage represented the team. Wing Commander Sanjaya de Silva, Senior Vice-President of SLASU was the chief guest. |
