Japanese Primier arrives in Pakistan ISLAMABAD, Saturday (AFP) Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in Pakistan Saturday from India for talks with top leaders, officials said. He will hold wide-ranging talks with President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on bilateral relations, nuclear non proliferation, counter terrorism and UN reforms, they said. Officials said the Japanese leader was expected to announce the resumption of an annual yen loan to Pakistan, which was suspended after Islamabad conducted nuclear tests in 1998. Before the tests, carried out in response to similar trials by India, Japan had given Islamabad 500 million dollars annually in development aid. Koizumi will oversee the signing of three agreements including grants worth 87 million dollars for a water purification project and an irrigation scheme. |
