Medexpress launches 'Doctor on Wheels'

by Rohan Mathes

Medexpress (Pvt) ltd. launched its 'Doctor on Wheels', round the clock Mobile Healthcare Services, last Wednesday.

Medexpress (Pvt) Ltd. Chairman Dr. Sanjayadeve Munasinghe told a press conference on Wednesday, that they have made a major breakthrough in revolutionising the healthcare services in the country by the provision of mobile healthcare consisting of a fleet of mini ambulances with a doctor and medical staff, who will visit the patient's doorstep in any medical emergency.

They expect to provide medical care at the patient's own home or workplace, at the most economical rates prevailing in the industry. Initiating the project with six ambulances within Colombo and its suburbs, they envisage to expand the service islandwide gradually.

"Our service will be 365 days per year and 24 hours per day. Every Mobile unit will call at your doorstep, wherever you may be, within minutes of your request", Dr Munasinghe said.

Their services will include emergency first aid and ODD services, on-the-spot medical investigations, ECG, examination by a doctor who would administer the drugs, post operative care, dressing of wounds and bed sores and transportation of patients needing hospitalisation among others.

Medexpress, a hospital operated by the Park Hospitals Group, will provide economical follow-up treatment to the patients transported by their ambulances. However, the patient would be free to choose his/her own medical centre or hospital for treatment.

The Chairman Micro Cars Ltd., Lawrence Perera said that the ambulances used in this venture are for the first time manufactured in Sri Lanka by them, at less than half the cost of an imported ambulance.

The ambulance is specifically designed for Sri Lanka with the optimum cost effectiveness to benefit the patients.

"Its petrol driven engine and cheaper spare parts would further enhance its cost effectiveness for the local customer and patient", Dr. Perera said.
