Sprint Group to capture more porcelain tile markets

by Don Asoka Wijewardena

Sprint Group Marketing Director Neilan William told the "Sunday Observer" that the main objective of the Sprint Group was to capture more international markets for exporting porcelain tiles manufactured in Sri Lanka as Sprint Group had been in the forefront of exporting 80 per cent of porcelain tiles to India, Pakistan, Middle East and Bangladesh.

The second Plant of the Sprint Tile Exports (Pvt) Ltd was opened at the Katunayake Export Promotion Zone by Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama on Thursday.

William said that porcelain tiles manufactured by the Sprint Group would soon reach an epoch-making progress as some representaives from a German company had already come here to place orders for tiles and added that the German company impressed by the high quality would popularise Sprint Group procelain tiles in the European Union.

Referring to the export market, William explained that around 150 containers of porcelain tiles worth Rs. 100 million were exported for a month as more countries had shown a keen interest to place orders for porcelain tiles because this special kind of tiles could be used in heavy traffic areas such as shops, commercial buildings, residential hotels and apartment projects.

When asked about the raw materials used to manufacture tiles, William said that the Sprint Group had been importing "Brick tiles" from China, Malaysiya and Italy on customers' requirements and added that a substantial addition process of 40 per cent was being carried out by means of three separate state-of-the-art machinery.
