Amadahara radio on 96.1 FM

'Amadahara FM' a special Vesak radio transmission will be broadcast on FM 96.1 MHz on May 23 and 24 from 10.00 am to midnight from the ANCL premises, marking the company's first foray into electronic media. Live programs will be broadcast over this transmission originating from a special studio in front of the Lake House building. It will also be narrowcast using a closed circuit loudspeaker system in the vicinity of Lake House.

ANCL journalists will handle all programs broadcast over Amadahara FM. The station will relay Buddhist news and other news items related to Vesak celebrations around ANCL. The journalists will move around Amadahara Vesak Zone and air live reports. Buddhist songs will also be telecast over this transmission.

The Amadahara Vesak Zone consists of five entrances on approach roads to ANCL. The Presidential Secretariat will also conduct several Vesak programs. The International Branch of the People's Bank has organised an ice cream Dansela.

The Amadahara Vesak Zone will included a 40 foot Vesak lantern carrying 140 retinue lamps depicting the Serivanija Jathaka story. The spectacular lantern is an innovation by employees of the World Trade Centre and the Overseas Reality Organisation. This giant Vesak lantern could be viewed by the public over three weeks.

A Bhakthi Gee recital will also be held on May 25 at 5.00 pm. The Three Wheeler Drivers Association has made arrangements to decorate the Colombo Fort area. The Colombo Traders association will stage Shantha Hettiarachchi's `Wasundara' on May 27 and 28 at 9.00 pm opposite Colombo Fort Railway station. A giant Vesak pandal presented by the Aganuwara Shri Sambuddha Waishakyadana Samithiya for the 41st time with the sponsorship of Manning Market Traders will be displayed near private bus stand of Bastian Mawatha, Colombo.

This time the pandal will depict the 'Supina' Jathakaya. A sil campaign, dansela and lantern exhibition will take place at Harbour. The Lake House Vesak Lantern Exhibition and Competition will be held opposite ANCL.

The Bhakthi Gee recital of the ANCL will also take place in front of ANCL. The ANCL, Finance Ministry, Presidential Secretariat, HDFC, National Housing Development Authority, Transport Ministry, Inland Revenue Department, Colombo Port, Sri Lanka Telecom, Ceylon Electricity Board, private and State banks, Fort Police and Armed Forces, Three Wheeler Drivers Association and several other organisations, State and private institutions have joined Amadahara. D.R.Wijewardene Mawatha, Chiththampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, Olcott Mawatha, Bank Of Ceylon Mawatha, Lotus Road, Maligakanda Road and all the other roads within the zone will be illuminated during the festival.
