IGA Directors tender resignation by Surekha Galagoda All three directors of International Grocers Alliance(IGA), the company which took over the management of Sathosa Retail Ltd (SRL) have tendered their resignation to the Sathosa Chairman Mahinda Gammanpila. Pravir Samarasinghe, the member representing Arpico tendered his resignation to the Sathosa Chairman on May 26 followed by the other members of the board including Lakshman De silva and Suresh Sha. Meanwhile, the ten-member committee appointed by Minister of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Jeyaraj Fernandopulle to look into the possibility of taking over Sathosa Retail Ltd by the government will hand over the final report to the minister this week. Earlier the minister said that he will go ahead with the take over based on the recommendations of the committee report. The committee was appointed in April 2004. The cabinet has approved the taking over of SRL based on the cabinet paper submitted by the minister. The employees will meet Labour Commissioner Mahinda Madihahewa on June 14 to get a solution to their grievances as their rights are being curtailed by the SRL Management. |
