Durdans revenue up 77% to Rs.910 m

Ceylon Hospitals Limited, one of Sri Lanka's long established healthcare institutions that has been through a rapid transformation towards excellence in healthcare, closed the financial year 2004/5 with phenomenal results.

In its first full year of operations after obtaining a listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange, the Healthcare Group has been able to record an impressive consolidated revenue of Rs.910 million for 2004/05 and a bottom line of Rs 132 million (pre tax) which is approximately a 77% increase compared to last year. "Profits have been impressive," says Chairman, Ajith Tudawe.

Reflecting on the outstanding results this year, the Chairman said that the reasons for this level of success is the judicious strategic decision making process ensuing over the last decade that has led to the hallmark for growth year on year.

"We are reaching sixty years this year (2005) knowing that we have played a significant role in the private healthcare sector of this country, even before Sri Lanka gained independence. Since 1993 Durdans progressively infused state-of-the-art knowledge and cutting-edge technology into the healthcare system.

With some of the country's most proficient consultants, nurses and support staff, our focus has always been a customer-centric service that will create and continue to create a paradigm shift in medical care in Sri Lanka.

Our medical and surgical disciplines, competent emergency treatment facilities and our first of its kind totally dedicated Heart Centre which revolutionised coronary care in Sri Lanka remains literally at the heart of our well-being."

The Durdans Heart Centre specialising in advanced Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac invasive and interventional procedures using state-of-the-art medical equipment has contributed significantly towards the Durdans performance.

During the financial year, Durdans introduced a Dialysis Unit equipped with state of the art technology, also setting up the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in October 2004.

These departments were added to the portfolio of existing Strategic Business Units. The Ophthalmology Unit, which performs the highest volume of cataract operations in the private healthcare sector, saw a further investment of a Carl Zeiss microscope and accessories including a laser therapy unit that will enable Durdans to perform advanced Ophthalmology procedures and a state of the art Carl Zeiss ENT microscope aids the performance of highly intricate ENT surgical procedures.
