Mihintale Aloka Pooja The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) has arranged to illuminate Mihintala holy premises and surrounding areas with its `Aloka Pooja' (offering of light) program this year too. The Aloka Pooja will take place from June 21 to 23 marking the Poson Festival. This is the 43rd Aloka Pooja by the ANCL at Mihintale and the program is collaborated by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC). It also includes oratorical consert among North Central Province school children, Sil Observations, cloth donations, alms givings etc. The donation of clothing worn to observe Sil for over 250 Dhamma School children will also take place parallel to the Aloka Pooja under the sponsorship of the Public Trustee. The oratorical consert will be held on June 11 in two categories, senior and junior. The winner of the senior category will be awarded the Wijewardene Commemoration Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 with the compliments of ANCL Buddhist Association. The Junior category winner will receive a special award from `Budusarana' newspaper with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Second and third place winners will receive cash prize of Rs. 7500 and Rs 5000 respectively. Fourth to tenth winners will also receive complementary gifts from the Dayawansa Jayakody and Company Limited. The competition is sponsored by the National Savings Bank (NSB). |
