Vimukthi concerned over local reaction by Ranga Jayasuriya Young film maker Vimukthi Jayasundera, first ever Sri Lankan to win the Camera d' Or Award at the Cannes International Film Makers is more concerned of the would be local reaction to his award winning film than that of international, but yet to find a distributor in Sri Lanka, the young film maker told a reception to honour his achievement. "What really matters is how local audience will react to my film," he told a packed audience on Wednesday. Jayasundera who won the Camera d'Or Award for the first film along with American film director Mirad July has already secured distributors in Japan, US, Spain and most parts of the Europe. The Film Corporation Chairman Sunil S. Sirisena then came to the help of young film maker, pledging his cooperation would take the responsibility to screen the film locally. Jayasundera's film Sulanga Enu Pinisa (Forsaken Land) beat over 30 films to win the prestigious award. The young film maker, who now reads film studies in France on a scholarship told the Sri Lankan would have won the award long ago, had the film makers have access to modern technology. "Even the veteran film maker Lester James Peries shoot with a 20-year old camera," said Jayasundera. Lester James Peries' Rekava was the first Sri Lankan film to represent the Cannes film festival in the mid sixties. |
