Launch of Saradharma Adhyapanaya by Ananda Kannangara Urban Development and Water Supply Minister, and Education Deputy Minister Dinesh Gunawardena recently said that due to lack of values in the minds of certain people in the present society, it was a difficult task to create a better culture. "Therefore the future generation must be taught the importance of the values (Saradharma)," he said. The Minister made these observations at the launching of the book titled "Saradharma Adhyapanaya" (Value Added Education), by Kalakeerthi Rohana Pradeepa Edwin Ariyadasa. The book is a Sinhala translation of "Soka Education", written by the President of Soka Gakkai International Dr. Daisaku Ikeda. While paying a glowing tribute to Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa for translating such a valuable book, considering our own Sinhala readers, the Minister said that the teaching of the value added education is very important at this juncture, especially for the benefit of persons who lack moral values. Due to lack of values in their minds, certain people engaged in large-scale crimes such as destroying valuable forests for timber and illegal sand mining, causing heavy environmental damages to the rivers. Making a brief speech on the book, Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa said that when he was requested to translate the "Soka Education", he entertained a marked deference towards Dr. Daisaku Ikeda's way of thinking. He said his endeavour was to communicate the thought of Dr. Ikeda to the Sinhala reader to enable him to appreciate the nuances of his education and human philosophy. "I progressively absorbed the contents of his work. I couldn't help but marved at the human aptness of his views on education. I am totally overwhelmed by the stark timeliness as well as the timeliness of his profound insights into value added education." he said. Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa also said that he became increasingly convinced that Dr. Ikeda was a modern Rishi providing not only a theoretical and philosophical path, but also a pragmatic route towards a system of education that benefits modern man. "His system spells both material and spiritual success, taking the agenda of education to a level that most educationalists overlook," he added. Prof. G. L. Peiris and Dr. A. T. Ariyarathne also spoke. |
