Sri Lanka gears up for South Asian games Except for Karate, Judo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Rowing and Rifle Shooting, all other disciplines at the 10th South Asian Games to be staged in Sri Lanka from April 18 to 29 next year (2006) will be in Colombo. Karate and Judo are to be worked off at the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) at Maharagama from April 19 to 23 and April 26 to 28 respectively. Wrestling and Weightlifting will be at the Kelaniya University from April 20 to 23 and April 25 to 28 respectively, Rowing at the Bolgoda Lake on April 19, 20, 22 and 24 while Rifle Shooting will be at the Navy Range in Welisara from April 21 to 28. The main Sugathadasa Stadium will be the venue for Athletics (April 24 to 29) and Football (April 19 to 24), while the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium is the venue for Volleyball (April 19 to 24). Table Tennis (April 25 to 28), Boxing (April 25 to 28, Squash (April 22 to 28), and Swimming (April 19 to 23). Badminton, Kabbadi, Archery and Taekwondo will be staged at the Royal College Sports Complex from April 19 to 24, April 25 to 28, April 19 to 24 and April 25 to 28 respectively, while the Wushu events are to be staged at the St. Joseph's College Sports Complex from April 24 to 28. Cycling too has been scheduled to be staged in Colombo from April 19 to 23. The opening ceremony is on April 18 with the closing ceremony on April 29. Meanwhile, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka won the bid to stage the Commonwealth Games Federation Assembly in Sri Lanka in 2007.
